I’m kicking off myDIY Art Degree with a 5 week project called Space and Scale. The titles of all the projects are really just hooks to hang some ideas on. I wanted to start with scale and space because I’ve recently visited Wells-next-the Sea and the Lake District and have images in my mind, and on camera, of big distances and big landscapes. Didn’t do any sketching during these visits which is a shame, but I have some photos.
So in this first week I’m trying to put down some initial thoughts – see the mind-map below – and next week I will try to push and explore each avenue as far as I can, in terms of ideas and rough images. I’ve already seen some references to follow up including Constable’s cloud studies – which are small but which capture really huge spaces.
